Marietta College
Marietta College (www.marietta.edu) is a private, liberal arts college located in the heart of historic Marietta. Marietta College is one of America's 37 "Revolutionary Colleges," institutions with origins reaching back to the 18th century. Originally founded as the Muskingum Academy in 1797, today's College was chartered in 1835. In 1860, Marietta became the 16th college awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the world's oldest and most respected honorary society. (Only seven percent of the nation's colleges and universities have earned Phi Beta Kappa distinction.)
Marietta College is ranked 15th in Top Bachelors Schools in Midwest Comprehensive Colleges by U.S. News & World Report. Students from 42 states and 12 nations attend Marietta College. Marietta College is proud of its strong liberal arts curriculum but also offers several innovative career-oriented programs such as sports medicine, computer science, petroleum engineering, and environmental science. Additionally, Marietta College provides a diversity of concentrations such as leadership, finance, and Asian Studies. About 1,200 students are enrolled at Marietta College, and 290 students graduated in the 2006 Spring Commencement ceremonies. Every year Marietta College provides deserving high school students in the region a chance to attend college through Gateway Grants.
Marietta College excels in more than academics. On the field, Marietta College won the 2006 NCAA Division III World Series Baseball Championship. On the river, the Mens Varsity-8 won the gold medal in the 2006 Dad Vail National Rowing Championship.
Washington State Community College
Washington State Community College (WSCC) is a comprehensive two-year community college accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. WSCC (www.wscc.edu) offers its over 2,300 students more than 50 programs of study. Articulation agreements with other institutions of higher education allow for WSCC credits to transfer to four-year institutions. Programs with Franklin University and Rio Grande University provide opportunities for students to finish a bachelor's degree on the Washington State campus. The WSCCs Opportunity Scholars Program is increasing college participation in Washington County every year. WSCC Post Secondary Enrollment Program allows high school students to earn college credits while still in high school.

WSCC also has a center for Business & Technology that offers training programs for business and industry. Over 3,000 people were trained through the Business & Technology Center in 2005. Ohio Valley University (http://www.ovu.edu/) is a private, Christian, liberal arts college located just across the Ohio River in Vienna, West Virginia. Ohio University
Ohio University (http://www.ohio.edu/) is located 29 miles from Washington Countys western border in Athens, Ohio. Established in 1804, Ohio University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. Undergraduate enrollment is 16,640. Ohio University has been cited for academic quality and value by such publications as U.S. News and World Report, America's 100 Best College Buys, Princeton Review's Best Colleges, and Peterson's Guide to Competitive Colleges. The John Templeton Foundation has also recognized Ohio University as one of the top character-building institutions in the country.
