K-12

Washington County is home to six public school districts offering K-12 education. Please see the attached PDF map for district boundaries.

Belpre City Schools
Belpre City Schools serve Belpre and the surrounding area with a reputation for strong academics.  Belpre Schools received an "Effective" rating from the Ohio Department of Education based upon student achievement tests.  The graduation rate is 93.7%.  The attendance rate is 96%.  Approximately 76% of Belpre High School students pursue higher education upon graduation.

Fort Frye High School
Fort Frye High School (FFHS) has a proud tradition of academic and athletic achievement. FFHS offers advanced placement courses in English Literature, English Language, and Calculus. The advanced mathematics track begins in 8th grade. Activities at FFHS include: Science Olympiad (junior and senior high school), Mock Trial team, National Honor Society, FCCLA, FFA, Spanish Honor Society, International Thespian Society, golf, football, volleyball, basketball, track, baseball, and softball. The J. Bryan and Norma R. McCann Scholarship Endowment supports graduating seniors as they pursue higher education. Nearly three-quarters of all graduating seniors pursue four year or two year college degrees. The graduation rate is 89.2%. The attendance rate is 94.5%.

Frontier Local School District
Frontier Local School District is situated in the Eastern part of Washington County along the scenic banks of the Ohio River and deep in the middle of the Wayne National Forest.  With three local elementary schools, one high school, and with relatively low enrollment, Frontier offers students small class sizes with lots of personal one on one instruction. The District has a graduation rate of 87% and an attendance rate of 97%, despite the implementation of graduation requirements exceeding State mandates. The High School has been awarded the State sponsored Ohio School of Promise Award for the past three consecutive years.  A kindergarten thru third grade Reading First Grant was recently awarded to the District resulting in increased student reading performance by the end of the third grade.  Athletic programs also play an important role in the development of our students and most major sports are offered to both boys and girls. We are very proud of our School District and our Community. We at Frontier Local School District strive to offer our students a first rate education necessary to be successful in the 21st century, all the while cherishing our small town rural traditions.

Marietta City Schools
Marietta High School (MHS) was designated as an “Excellent” high school by the Ohio Department of Education after the 2004-2005 school year. MHS offers an extensive advanced placement and honors level selection of courses in a broad curriculum, along with many college preparatory and general education class offerings. MHS band and choir programs are award-winning, and both have strong community support. MHS has won the all-sports trophy for the South Eastern Ohio Athletic League three out of the last four years. In addition to offering band, choir and a variety of athletic teams, MHS also offers a broad range of clubs, groups and other extra-curricular activities. Marietta High School will be starting an Engineering Program in conjunction with Washington State Community College (WSCC) next year called "Project Lead The Way." MHS is also working on another collaborative project with WSCC to enhance the current Channel 22 (public access channel). Over two-thirds of graduating seniors plan to attend four-year or two-year colleges. The attendance rate is 93.8% and the graduation rate is 90.4% (2003-2004 school year).

Warren Local Schools
Warren Local School District serves western Washington County.  Warren Local received an "Effective" rating and just missed an "Excellent" rating from the Ohio Department of Education based on achievement test scores released in 2006.  Also in 2006, Warren High School has received an "Excellent" rating from the State of Ohio for student achievement test scores, the fifth time in six years Warren High School received that honor.  Since 2002, Warren High School has been designated a "High School that Works."  Warren High School offers advanced placement classes in six subjects as well as advanced placement classes online.  Honors classes are offered in science classes.  Some clubs at Warren High School include: Ballroom Dancing, Computer/Digital Art, Forensics, Key Club, National Honor Society, Physics in the Park, and Science Olympiad.  Sports include cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball and track.  Music groups include: a cappella, bass chorus, bells, concert band, jazz band, marching band, and treble chorus.

Four parochial schools operate in Washington County. St. Mary’s Catholic Church operates a K-8th grade school. Belpre Christian Academy operates a K-12 school.  St. John's School offers K-8 classes in Churchtown.   Marietta Christian School also offers K-12 education.
