  • Washington County government is cooperative with businesses. In the last 10 years, Washington County provided partial tax exemptions on $694 million worth of business investments. 
  • In 2005, Ohio enacted tax reforms that provide competitive advantages to manufacturing companies and those selling goods and services outside of Ohio. Hundreds and Thousands Available

  • The chemical and polymer industry dominates the local economy.  Over 4,300 people are employed at 21 chemical and polymer establishments in the Parkersburg-Marietta metropolitan statistical area. This highly skilled work force has been downsized, and experienced workers are available. 
  • In Spring 2007, Chevron-Phillips Chemical Company advertised for four chemical operator positions, they received 493 applications.  That is more than 100 applicants per job.
  • In Summer 2007, Hino Motors located in the Mid-Ohio Valley and advertised for 80 positions. Nearly 3,000 people applied for jobs.
  • Washington County Career Center and Washington State Community College both offer programs of interest to polymer companies. Course offerings include: chemical operator, design and drafting, electrical engineering, electricity, industrial technology, instrumentation, LEAN manufacturing, maintenance mechanic, mechanical engineering, and Six Sigma.
